As a Professional Fitness Trainer with over 13 years of experience it continues to amaze me that the majority of fitness enthusiasts know very little about the what, why and how to’s of exercise.   Heck, a study of fitness trainers and health club members in Florida showed that most fitness trainers are fairly ignorant as well.  In the study, fitness trainers knew only as much as the health club members.  As I see it this problem exists for two reasons.

First, there are too many resources available through print and online media that are disemminating poor information because it satisfies a specific need to target customers emotionally and sell magazines, memberships, etc.  The latest workout routine of your favorite super-thin Hollywood starlit is a perfect example.

The other issue is that people are unwilling to listen to those who know best because it usually involves either actually training hard, using a style of training that you are unfamiliar with, or it incorporates a long-term success strategy.  Yep, goodbye immediate gratification, but hello results.

Although I don’t consider myself an “expert” or “guru” I have studied exercise science intensively and have made a point to learn from those in the industry who have effectively infused the scientific and practical aspects of strength & conditioning.  Thus, everything you read on this post will be provable through both scientific study and the experiences of trainees worldwide.

Herein begins my personal crusade to bring honest information to the masses and to void the world of ignorance in exercise and fitness.  Please bring with you an open mind and I guarantee you’ll start seeing results!

I’ve been contemplating a blog for nearly a year.  Call it procrastination or blame it on my ADD, but at least I made it!  My name is Chris Marino.  I’m a personal trainer in Downingtown, PA and the Director of Education of Exercise Etc., the largest continuing education provider to fitness professionals in the US.  My objective with this blog is to provide current and controversial information in the field of strength & conditioning and fitness.  I look forward to creating an interactive environment for fitness enthusiasts in Downingtown and around the world.
